INTEREST MEETING

JUNE 2021

Veteran Team Astraea members will be holding an interest meeting after-school both in-person & virtually on Google Meets to explain how YOU can be a part of our family.

The interest meeting will go over what our team does, what FIRST is, how summer training works, and what the future holds in store for you on Team Astraea. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to shoot us an email.
We are still working out the schedule, so fill out our interest form & check your email for an update on the date and time.

WHO CAN JOIN?

If you are a student interested in STEM or business, consider checking us out!

We welcome RISING
SOPHOMORES,
JUNIORS,
SENIORS at EBHS!

If you are currently a rising freshman or younger, please look for opportunities to join in the future. You are welcome to attend our interest meeting virtually, but (until further notice) we cannot accept you this year. We would love to see you next season!
WHAT IF I HAVE NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE?
No worries! You absolutely do NOT need any experience in robotics to join our mechanical or non-technical subteams, though we do require experience in Java in our code subteam (a programming class at the high school works!)

A BIT ABOUT

OUR SUBTEAMS

& SCHEDULE

Though we're all one family, we work in mechanical, non-technical, and code subteams. If you aren't sure which subteam interests you, make sure to attend our interest meeting to learn more about each subteam.
  • Mechanical: works to design, CAD, & build a robot during our 6-week build season
  • Non-technical: secures grants & sponsorships and handles outreach & public relations
  • Code: programs all functionality for the robot from basic, such as driving, to advanced, such as autonomous control
Throughout the entire year, all of our subteams work towards competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). From June or early summer through August, we train and welcome potential members ("summer training"). From September to the season kickoff in January, we work on technical goals to improve our team's skills to build better robots. Finally, in March and April, we take our robot to competition with robots from other FRC teams!

Since our team is especially busy over the build season, we strongly discourage participating in both robotics and a winter sport for your mental health. However, if you are interested in both robotics and a sport (over winter or another season), you can sign up for summer training anyways to get a sense of our team (and time commitment). If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!

SUMMER TRAINING

Each year, from June to August, our team organizes lessons, mini-projects, and other activities to help introduce you to the skills/software/tools (and people!) we work with. This year, we plan to host summer training both virtually and in person, but we will finalize our meeting schedule and location after more updates to Covid-19 guidelines. Check our website and your email (after filling out the interest form) for more details later!
